How to Make Your Perfume Last Longer: 9 Tips That Actually Work

A great fragrance that fades in an hour is frustrating. Most of the time the fix is not a different perfume - it is how and where you apply it. Here are nine things that genuinely help.

1. Apply to moisturised skin

Fragrance clings to oil, not dry skin. Use an unscented moisturiser or a matching body lotion right before you spray. Dry skin lets the scent evaporate far faster.

2. Spray straight after a shower

Warm, slightly damp, clean skin holds fragrance best. Apply within a couple of minutes of drying off.

3. Hit real pulse points

Inner wrists, base of the throat, behind the ears, inner elbows and behind the knees. These areas are warm and radiate scent through the day.

4. Do not rub your wrists together

Rubbing crushes the top notes and speeds up evaporation. Spray and let it dry naturally.

5. Spray your clothes and hair (carefully)

Fabric holds scent for days. Keep 15-20cm away, avoid delicate silks and pale colours, and mist hair lightly or use a dedicated hair mist.

6. Layer it

Shower gel, then matching lotion, then the eau de parfum. Even an unscented base plus a matching deodorant body spray adds hours.

7. Store it properly

Heat, light and humidity break fragrance down. Keep bottles in a cool, dark cupboard - not on a sunny windowsill or in the bathroom.

8. Choose the right concentration

Eau de parfum outlasts eau de toilette, which outlasts a body mist. If longevity matters, start with an eau de parfum built for projection.

9. Pick heavier note families for staying power

Oud, amber, vanilla and gourmand scents naturally last longer than light citrus. Arabian eau de parfums lean into exactly these notes, which is why they tend to perform so well.

Put four or five of these together and a "weak" fragrance often turns into an all-day one.
